British Beauty Magazine was founded on a simple premise: that shoppers deserve an honest account of whether a product does what it claims, written by people with no reason to flatter it. We do not accept free samples, we do not run paid placements, and no brand sees a review before it is published. Every item is bought anonymously at full price from a chemist, a beauty hall or an online retailer, in the same way any reader would buy it.
Testing follows a fixed period, usually several weeks, during which more than one person uses the product under normal conditions before a result is agreed. Where a claim can be measured, such as wear time or colour transfer, we measure it rather than take a brand’s word for it. Where judgement is required, more than one tester must agree before a verdict stands.
We publish nothing to sell anything. There is no commission on any purchase a reader makes as a result of reading us, and there never will be.
How Findings Are Checked
A small standing panel reviews the more technical findings before publication: a dermatologist with long clinical experience in ageing skin, a research scientist who has spent his career studying how skin ages and how ingredients behave on it, and a consultant dermatologist working in non-surgical skin rejuvenation. None of the three has a commercial interest in the products under review, and their role is to check that a claim about an ingredient or a skin effect is fairly stated before it appears in print.
Corrections and Suggestions
